========================= Installation Instructions ========================= .. :authors: Ronald Oussoren Installation ------------ PyObjC is installed using distutils and uses the setuptools extension to distutils. PyObjC's ``setup.py`` script will download setuptools if it is not yet installed. To install PyObjC:: $ python setup.py install This will compile and install the ``pyobjc-core`` package in your Python's ``site-packages`` directory. When you have multiple versions of Python on your machine this will only install it for the version of python that's first in your shell's search-path. Installation using ``easy_install`` ----------------------------------- It is also possible to install PyObjC using ``easy_install``: $ easy_install pyobjc-core This will install just ``pyobjc-core``. In general you want to use the following command instead:: $ easy_install pyobjc This will install ``pyobjc-core`` as well as a large number of framework wrappers. Installation with the system version of Python ---------------------------------------------- The system version of Python (``/usr/bin/python``) includes a copy of PyObjC starting at MacOSX 10.5 ("Leopard"). Installing other versions of PyObjC with "/usr/bin/python" on Leopard or later is not supported and could break your system.
